Goals:

  • Learn and apply 5S to the MakerSpace in order to make it usable for everyone.

  • Learn 5S skills that you can apply to your everyday spaces to increase productivity, efficiency, and safety.

1. Sort (Seiri)

  • Remove what you don’t need.

  • Keep only the essential items in your workspace.

2. Set in Order (Seiton)

  • Decide where each item belongs.

  • Put tools and materials in places that are easy to reach and return.

3. Shine (Seiso)

  • Clean your workspace.

  • Check equipment and surroundings while cleaning to spot problems early.

4. Standardize (Seiketsu)

  • Make rules and routines for keeping things organized.

  • Use labels, color codes, or checklists to keep everything consistent.

5. Sustain (Shitsuke)

  • Build habits and discipline to follow the rules every day.

  • Do regular audits or quick checks to keep the system alive.
